The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed veteran journalist, lawyer and pro-democracy advocate, Osa Director, as its new National Publicity Secretary as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s communication structure ahead of future political engagements.
The party also announced the appointment of seasoned media professionals, Peter Agbo Ekele and Lawal Sabo Ibrahim, as Deputy National Publicity Secretaries.
In a statement issued by the National Working Committee on May 16, 2026, the NDC said the appointments underscore its commitment to building a robust communication framework anchored on professionalism, integrity and democratic values.
According to the party, Director brings decades of experience in journalism, law, media management and democratic advocacy to his new role.
He gained national recognition during Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle as a journalist with TELL Magazine, one of the country’s leading media platforms during the military era. The party noted that his activism and commitment to press freedom led to his detention under the late General Sani Abacha’s military government.
Director, who is also a co-founder and former Editor-in-Chief of INSIDER WEEKLY Magazine, has made significant contributions to investigative journalism and public accountability in Nigeria. He later established the law firm, Osa Director & Co., expanding his influence in legal practice and public affairs.
The NDC highlighted his academic and professional achievements, noting that he holds qualifications in Biochemistry, Management, Law, Media and Communications, and Corporate Governance, alongside certifications from institutions including Cambridge University and Leeds Metropolitan University.
On Peter Agbo Ekele, the party described him as a respected journalist and editor with over a decade of experience in Nigeria’s media industry.
A graduate of English Language from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Ekele has held several editorial positions, including Reporter, News Editor, Group News Editor and Editor, in media organisations such as New Nigerian, National Accord and LEADERSHIP Newspapers.
He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of The Cabal Newspaper.
Lawal Sabo Ibrahim was also praised for his extensive experience spanning journalism, publishing and academia.
He holds degrees in English Education and English Language from the University of Jos and Bayero University, Kano. Over the years, he has worked as a lecturer at Kano State Polytechnic and held editorial leadership roles at Peoples Daily and LEADERSHIP Newspapers.
Between 2017 and 2023, Ibrahim served as Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Triumph Publishing Company.
The NDC expressed confidence that the combined experience and expertise of the three appointees would enhance the party’s engagement with Nigerians and advance its vision of building a democratic, inclusive and prosperous nation.
The party congratulated the appointees and wished them success in their new responsibilities.
