Niger PDP Governorship Candidate Nami Promises Transparent Govt

Channels TV about 3 hours 2 mins read

The Niger State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mamman Nami, who is a former chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has pledged to run a transparent and accountable government if elected governor of the state.

Nami is promising that he will not betray the state, just as he never betrayed the country when former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Nami made the commitment while addressing party supporters and stakeholders during an appreciation visit following his emergence as the PDP governorship candidate for the forthcoming election.

He said his administration would not tolerate the practice of allowing youths to gather at the Government House for money-sharing exercises, describing such practices as inappropriate for a modern government.

The PDP candidate also condemned the alleged use of the Government House premises for activities involving intoxicating substances, saying his administration would ensure that the seat of government is protected from such activities.

Nami further promised that public resources under his administration would be managed transparently, stressing that he would not divert state funds for personal property acquisitions within or outside Nigeria.

He said empowerment programmes would be properly organised in line with the realities of the digital age, rather than through indiscriminate cash distribution.

According to him, beneficiaries should be properly registered, with their bank account details captured to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of government support.

Earlier, the Niger State PDP Chairman, Mohammed Hallidu, said the party was fully prepared for the election and expressed confidence in the capacity of its governorship candidate to lead the state.

Halidu said the PDP would campaign on what he described as the shortcomings and challenges of the present administration, with a view to presenting its candidate as an alternative to the electorate.
