The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has suspended assistant referee Aliyu Yakubu Bana indefinitely following a controversial offside decision in a matchday three encounter involving Doma United and Enyimba.
The decision was reached in a letter signed by Mohammed Ameenu, Secretary of the NFF Referee Development Committee on Sunday, September 13th.
According to the letter, Bana failed to properly apply offside guidelines while serving as assistant referee 1 in Doma United’s 2-0 victory over Enyimba on Saturday.
The NFF said Bana did not follow the “wait-and-see protocol,” which led to the cancellation of a valid goal scored by Enyimba.
The federation stated that the mistake affected the result of the game.
As a result, Bana has been delisted from the league roster of referees and assistant referees for the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season.
