Abia Warriors assistant coach, Bethel Orji, has said costly defensive mistakes is responsible for the team’s poor start to the new season, DAILY POST reports.
Imama Amapakabo’s side are yet to record a win in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, this season.
The Umuahia club laboured to a 2-2 home draw against Ikorodu City on Sunday to extend their winless streak to three matches.
Abia Warriors have picked just two points from a possible nine.
Orji admitted that his side have gifted too many goals.
“It’s a big worry. We’ve been doing what we’re supposed to do to ensure that we stop conceding unnecessary goals because, you see, all the goals we’ve conceded have been gifted,” Orji told reporters after the game against Ikorodu City.
“It’s the defenders who gift them away. They give away the balls for the opponents to score against us.”
The Umu Chineke will face Sporting Lagos and Kano Pillars in their next two league games.
