The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Yobe State Command, has paraded two suspects arrested over the alleged vandalism of 800 metres of high-tension aluminium electricity cables along the Damaturu-Kallalawa road in the state.
The suspects were arrested by the Nigerian Army and subsequently handed over to the NSCDC for further investigation and prosecution.
Parading the suspects at the NSCDC state headquarters in Damaturu, the Commandant, Hassan Owuna, told Channels Television that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
Owuna said the arrest was made possible through collaboration among security agencies operating in the state.
“With the three Cs of Cooperation, Coordination and Collaboration, with the sister agencies, the Nigerian Army arrested two persons in connection to vandalizing of electricity cables along Damaturu-Kallalawa axis.
The commandant also disclosed that the NSCDC had earlier arrested two persons in connection with the possession of 3kg of tramadol during his first week in office, adding that the suspects were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further prosecution.
“In the first week of my assumption of office as the Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps Yobe state, we arrested 2 persons in connection with 3kg of tramadol and handed them over to the NDLEA for upward prosecution,” he said.
Owuna attributed the vandalism of critical national assets partly to illicit drug use among youths and greed.
He urged parents and members of the public to monitor their children and wards closely to help curb criminal activities in the state.
