Calls for sustained peace among ethnic groups

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta state has lauded the Olu of Warri Ogiame Atuwatse III for his passion and commitment to peace and development  in Warri , urging all ethnic groups in the area to sustain the peaceful co existence among them.

“I appeal to all ethnic nationalities in Warri to maintain the peace and unity we have enjoyed over the years. We have  peacefully coexisted over the years and it should continue “, he said. 

“Ogiame I commend you. You went round, visited the Pere of OgbeIjoh who is here today. You are a man of peace “, he added.

The governor who spoke at the 5th coronation anniversary  celebration of the Olu of Warri yesterday in his palace in Warri  described  the monarch as a bridge builder , a pacifist and a very cerebral mind, thanking him for his tremendous support for his  administration. 

“The Olu is a cerebral monarch, a bridge builder , a man of grace , he leads from the front. He has a passion for the progress of Warri and the entire state. 

“He has taken more than a passive interest in my administration.you have shown love to this administration. The Itsekiri nation hosted me here first of its kind , a political endorsement of Mr President and myself .I appreciate you “, he said.

He lauded the monarch for the recent  scooter and bike competition he had  on the  Trans Ode Itsekiri road in the ancestral home of Itsekiri nation, being constructed by his administration, stressing that  the event further showcased what the government was doing in that area.

“There was a picture I saw of you on a scooter,  I said you are a modern monarch ,you showcased a place people thought that roads cannot get to. It’s  the  strong support you have for my administration “, he said .

He also expressed gratitude to the monarch and Itsekiri nation for recently endorsing him and  President Bola Tinubu for reelection next year. 

Earlier in his address,  the Olu of Warri who was visibly elated expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for the anniversary celebration , stressing that he would continue to give God all the praises.

“We are grateful to God for five years of grace, five years of what only God could do. I am  singing in my heart , giving God all the praise. It is God that is shining through. What God is doing through this throne is beyond Itsekiri, it is  for Delta state and Nigeria “, he said. 

He also thanked the governor of Lagos state Babajide Sanwolu, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy,   Hannatu Musa Musawa, other traditional rulers in the state and other parts of the country that came to  celebrate his 5th anniversary with him .

Various Itsekiri communities, groups and those in the diaspora paid homage to the monarch during the ceremony.

It was an unprecedented gathering at the palace yesterday for the celebration. Women ,men and youths decked in the rich cultural attire of Itsekiri nation were all over the palace. Groups had their  canopies on the premises.
