October 1: Gov Idris urges Nigerians to uphold unity, democracy

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris has urged Nigerians to uphold national unity, democratic values and peaceful coexistence as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.

The governor made the call in an Independence Day message issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki.

Idris said Nigeria’s diversity should remain a source of strength, urging citizens to avoid political, religious and ethnic differences that could undermine national unity.

He also called on Nigerians to protect democratic gains, uphold the rule of law and support good governance as the country continues to address its challenges.

“We are stronger in unity, and our prosperity lies in upholding togetherness as one indivisible entity,” he said.

The governor urged citizens to draw inspiration from the sacrifices and patriotism of the country’s founding fathers and place the national interest above narrow considerations.

He also called for sustained prayers for the peace, stability and prosperity of Nigeria, saying the country’s challenges require collective responsibility, resilience and mutual understanding.

Idris said his administration remained committed to strengthening security in Kebbi State and implementing programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.

He urged citizens to cooperate with the government and security agencies in efforts to protect lives and property, particularly amid the security challenges confronting parts of the country.
