The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has described the late veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, as a cultural ambassador who used his craft to promote and preserve Yoruba traditions and values.
Adams, in a condolence statement on Monday, expressed profound sorrow over the death of the actor, describing his contributions to the Yoruba film industry as remarkable and enduring.
Hassan died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with stage-four cancer, leaving a significant void in the Nigerian entertainment industry and Yoruba cultural community.
Adams extended his condolences to the late actor’s family, friends, colleagues and fans, as well as the entire Yoruba film industry.
He commended Ogogo’s dedication to promoting Yoruba heritage through his performances, which endeared him to audiences across Nigeria and beyond.
According to him, the late actor distinguished himself through professionalism, versatility and an unwavering commitment to the arts.
He said Ogogo’s legacy would continue to inspire generations of actors and theatre practitioners who regarded him as a role model.
In the condolence message, Adams said, “Ogogo’s life and work exemplify the spirit of Yoruba artistry and the power of storytelling to unite and uplift our people.”
He also sympathised with theatre practitioners and members of the entertainment industry over the loss, urging them to remain resilient in the face of the tragedy.
Adams emphasised the importance of unity and collective prayers for the repose of Ogogo’s soul and called on Yoruba sons and daughters to rally around the deceased’s family.
He prayed that the Almighty would grant the actor eternal rest and provide strength and comfort to his family and all those mourning him.
Adams described Ogogo as a towering figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly Yoruba-language cinema, whose career spanned several decades.
He noted that the actor delivered memorable performances that left an enduring impression on audiences.
According to him, Ogogo’s work went beyond entertainment, as he also helped educate audiences and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.
“Throughout his career, Ogogo was celebrated for his ability to portray a wide range of characters with depth and authenticity. His dedication to his craft earned him respect and admiration from colleagues, critics and fans alike.
“Beyond his artistic talents, he was known for his humility, kindness and mentorship of younger actors, helping to nurture the next generation of Yoruba film stars,” the statement added.
