The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, yesterday, unfolded a seven-point agenda that would be the focus of his administration if he elected governor of the state.
Adebutu unveiled his proposed programmes during a media chat with journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The candidate, who was supported by his running mate, Alhaja Latifat Showunmi-Kolapo, three senatorial candidates of the PDP for the 2027 Election and some House of Representatives candidate, said his interest to serve the people of the state, was a calling for him.
He said he had lost fortune over the years in his quest to serve the people of Ogun State but his passion for the betterment of the state and the people informed his desire to forge ahead.
The candidate said anyone who truly wanted to serve people, must be ready to sacrifice, disclosing that some of his business fortunes had been committed to his desire to serve people urging journalists to be fair in their reporting and not allowed themselves to be intimidated.
The seven-point agenda of Adebutu included tackling insecurity, grassroots development, urban planning development, economic development, education, health and women and sports development.
According to Adebutu, insecurity remained one of the major problems bedevilling the country, adding that it would form a key part of the PDP governance agenda if the party returned to power.
He particularly stressed the need to improve welfare of security operatives so that they could put in their best knowing full well that their welfare was ensured.
Adebutu reiterated his support for local government autonomy, arguing that strengthening the third tier of government would significantly improve service delivery at the grassroots.
According to him, effective local governance remained essential for development to reach rural communities and reduce pressure on state governments.
“We must ensure local government autonomy if we want credible performance at the grassroots,” he said, stressing that decentralisation would improve accountability and development outcomes.
