ABUJA: The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Senator Adeola Solomon Olamilekan, popularly known as “Yayi,” as its authentic governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, dismissing the candidacy of Mr Abayomi Hunye as unauthorized.
The party also said Hunye remained suspended from its membership.
In a statement issued on Monday, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, described Hunye as an “impostor” and said his claim to the party’s governorship ticket was unauthorized.
According to Basiru, Hunye was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026, following a petition from his ward, Tube Ward, in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The party said the suspension was based on a decision by the ward executives, which was subsequently ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area and approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.
Basiru said the suspension followed allegations of “engaging in activities injurious to the image of the Party” and “deliberate actions aimed at causing disaffection and division among loyal members.”
He added that, as a result of the suspension, Hunye lacked the standing to represent the APC in any capacity.
The APC reaffirmed that Senator Olamilekan remained its duly nominated candidate following the party’s governorship primary election, with Balogun Kudirat Abiodun as his running mate.
The party said the particulars of Olamilekan and Abiodun had been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in accordance with the Electoral Act 2026 and the commission’s guidelines.
It said INEC had issued acknowledgement slips confirming the submission of their particulars as the party’s candidates for the election scheduled for January 2027.
Documents attached to the statement, including INEC’s temporary acknowledgement of submission, showed that the candidates’ profiles were submitted on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The APC cautioned individuals and organisations against conducting political transactions with Hunye, saying the party would not be responsible for any financial loss, legal disputes or criminal liability arising from such dealings.
The party also disclosed that its legal team had been directed to initiate contempt proceedings and file a formal complaint with security agencies over what it described as “gross misrepresentation and impersonation.”
The APC further cautioned media organisations against providing a platform for Hunye, saying such action could be interpreted as complicity in what it described as a fraudulent act.
It urged its supporters in Ogun State to remain calm and law-abiding and to ignore what it described as provocations aimed at disrupting peace in the state.
