Ogun CP seeks stronger community support for improved security

Stakeholders have commended the improved security situation across Sango-Ota and neighbouring communities following the operational successes recorded under Operation KOSAYE, an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege Ekun 11, gave the commendation during the visit of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, to the Sango-Ota Area Command, where he attributed the decline in criminal activities along the Ogun-Lagos border to the sustained implementation of the special security operation.

He added that Operation KOSAYE had significantly reduced criminal activities along the Ogun-Lagos border, just as its impact had been felt in another neighbouring State of Oyo, as criminals could not make the State their safe haven.

On his part, CP Bode Ojajuni said the special operation force had successfully worked to apprehend and neutralise several criminal suspects, while sustained operations were still ongoing across the affected areas

He added that the relative peace being enjoyed in Sango-Ota was a testament to the effective collaboration among the Nigeria Police Force as well as other security agencies and members of the public.

“The Sango-Ota that we expected to be volatile has remained peaceful and secured. This is a clear indication that the Police, sister security agencies and members of the community have continued to work together to safeguard lives and property,” he stated.

The commissioner called on residents to sustain their support for security agencies through timely and credible intelligence sharing, stressing that community participation remained indispensable to effective policing.

He also commended the media for its responsible reportage of security issues and urged police officers to uphold professionalism, discipline and accountability in the discharge of their duties, warning officers against acts of corruption, extortion and harassment of members of the public.

Earlier, the Area Commander, ACP Olusola Oladele, highlighted the operational achievements of the Sango-Ota Area Command, which covered Ado-Odo/Ota and Ifo Local Government Areas, adding that the command had continued to record remarkable successes through intelligence-led policing, regular patrols and strengthened collaboration with stakeholders.

According to her, several suspected violent criminals had been arrested and prosecuted, while others were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

ACP Oladele, however, appealed to the Commissioner for additional operational logistics, including communication gadgets, operational torchlights and protective equipment, to enhance officers’ safety and improve operational efficiency.

She also requested the extension of Operation KOS’AYE to the abandoned Gateway Hotel, recalling that a joint operation carried out by the Sango-Ota Area Command and Zone 2 Police Command in 2025 successfully dislodged 98 suspected criminals from the facility.

She disclosed that recent intelligence reports indicated that some criminal elements had returned to the abandoned premises, making another coordinated security operation necessary.

Speaking on behalf of other security agencies, the Ogun West Zonal Commander of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Commander Adekunle Ajibade, described the Commissioner’s visit as a morale booster for security personnel and a demonstration of proactive leadership.

Ajibade, said the existing synergy among security agencies had strengthened security across Ado-Odo/Ota and adjoining communities, assuring the Commissioner of continued intelligence sharing and joint operations aimed at ensuring that criminal elements have no safe haven within the area.
