BENIN CITY — Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has charged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections to take the party’s message to every ward and polling unit across the state.
Okpebholo gave the charge on Wednesday while inaugurating the Edo APC Campaign Council, which he chairs, urging members to work as a team and engage directly with residents at the grassroots.
He said the campaign should reach every community in the state and involve youths, women, traditional institutions, traders and other relevant stakeholders, rather than being limited to party leaders and political office holders.
Speaking at the event, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, commended Okpebholo for what he described as his grassroots approach to governance.
“Those who are not members of the party are Nigerians and Edo people. Our task is to motivate them and bring them into our fold,” Oshiomhole said.
Also speaking, the Edo State APC Chairman and Co-Vice Chairman of the campaign council, Jarrett Tenebe, said experienced party members had been carefully selected to deliver the party’s candidates in the various elections.
He assured the council of the party’s support to enable it effectively discharge its responsibilities.
The Director-General of the Campaign Council, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, said the campaign must be taken to the “nooks and crannies” of Edo State.
Urhoghide said the campaign would be unit-based, urging all candidates to remain in their constituencies and engage voters throughout the campaign period.
He said the election would be fought at the polling-unit level, stressing the need for members of the campaign council to pay close attention to grassroots mobilisation.
A former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dr Pius Odubu, urged members of the council to regard their appointments as a call to duty.
Those present at the inauguration included Deputy Governor Dannis Idahosa; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Yekini Idiaye; former deputy governors Lucky Imaseun and Pius Odubu; Senators Neda Imasuen and Joe Ikpea; Edo Central APC chieftain, Gen. Cecil Esekaigbe; APC Deputy State Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh; and the party’s state secretary, Lawrence Okah, among others.
