The Ondo State Government has concluded plans to domesticate the National Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy and Action Plan as part of efforts to advance women’s economic inclusion and create greater opportunities for them across the state.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, ‘Seun Osamaye, disclosed this while hosting the National WEE domestication team led by Professor Aina Olabisi in Akure.
According to Osamaye, the initiative underscores Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to placing women at the centre of his administration’s development agenda, adding that the government had put the required machinery in place for the successful implementation of the policy in Ondo State.
She further noted that the National Women Economic Empowerment Policy Framework and its implementation strategy were unveiled by the Federal Government through the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) for commissioners for women affairs, permanent secretaries and other gender officers to undertake assessment and validation exercises ahead of the policy’s adoption by the 36 states.
The commissioner disclosed that the policy serves as a comprehensive framework aimed at eliminating economic inequalities affecting women while accelerating reforms that would improve their participation in the nation’s economy.
Osamaye said the framework focuses on agriculture, entrepreneurship, traditional labour markets, and emerging industries, as well as education and skills development.
The Commissioner disclosed that the Ondo State domestication exercise would take place from Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Women Development and Skill Acquisition Centre.
