Ondo Taking Proactive Steps To Prevent Banditry, Kidnapping — Commissioner

Channels TV about 2 hours 3 mins read

The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, says the state government has put proactive security measures in place to ensure Ondo does not become a battleground for bandits and kidnappers.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Ajanaku acknowledged that insecurity remains one of the biggest challenges facing the state but said the government is determined to prevent criminal elements from gaining a foothold.

“We put certain measures in order to ensure that Ondo State does not become a battle ground for bandits and kidnappers,” Ajanaku said.

He said the administration had recognised the security challenge and was taking deliberate steps to safeguard lives and property while preserving peace and stability across the state.

According to him, the government remains committed to ensuring that insecurity does not disrupt Ondo’s development.

Beyond security, Ajanaku highlighted the state’s economic potential, saying the government is working to transform Ondo from a predominantly civil service-driven economy into an industrial hub.

“We have discovered that Ondo State has a lot of potential to transform from a civil servant state to an industrialised state.”

He recalled that the Dangote Refinery, now located in Lagos, was originally proposed for Ondo State in 2009.

According to him, efforts are underway to revive similar investment opportunities, revealing that Aliko Dangote visited the state last week to meet with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

He said the visit marked the beginning of fresh discussions on investment prospects in the state.

On local government administration, Ajanaku clarified that the Ondo State Government does not control local government funds.

“Let me make it clear that the Ondo State Government has nothing to do with the local government funding.”

He said local governments enjoy financial autonomy and are free to execute projects that serve the interests of their communities.

The commissioner added that cooperation between the state and local governments has strengthened efforts to tackle insecurity and improve public safety.

Ajanaku also described the relationship between Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as cordial and productive.

“The relationship between the governor of Ondo State and the Minister of Interior is perfectly excellent.”

He said the partnership, built on mutual respect and collaboration, has strengthened the state’s security architecture and complemented the government’s preventive measures against insecurity.

On politics, the commissioner said members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state are united behind President Bola Tinubu.

“The reality is that all of us in the state are working towards one goal, working for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the victory of the party in the state,” he said.

Ajanaku said the shared commitment reflects the determination of party members in Ondo State to secure victory for the APC and ensure continuity.
