Operation Fansan Yamma launches Clean Sweep IV against terrorists

The Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, has launched Operation Clean Sweep IV, a coordinated offensive aimed at intensifying pressure on terrorists and armed criminal groups across the North-West.

The operation is designed to disrupt terrorist networks, degrade their operational capabilities and prevent the infiltration and expansion of terrorist activities across communities in the region.

The Media Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Danja said the operation would combine coordinated ground and air operations against identified threats across the North-Western states.

According to him, the offensive seeks to disrupt the movement and logistics of terrorists while denying them opportunities to establish operational footholds within Nigerian communities.

“The launch of Operation Clean Sweep IV has already translated into intensified operational activities across the Theatre,” he said.

Danja said troops of Sector 2 conducted a clearance operation on Wednesday, August 12, around suspected terrorist enclaves in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

He said the operation mounted significant pressure on the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their positions and withdraw into surrounding bushes, adding that clearance operations were ongoing in the general area.

In Zamfara State, he said the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma conducted precision strikes following credible intelligence on the movement and convergence of terrorists on motorcycles in Anka Local Government Area.

According to him, the strikes neutralised scores of terrorists and forced survivors to abandon their motorcycles and flee into surrounding bushes.

He added that air assets subsequently located and engaged the fleeing terrorists.

Danja said a major component of Operation Clean Sweep IV was the deliberate effort to contain and dismantle the Lakurawa terrorist network across the theatre.

He said the operation would prevent the infiltration and reinforcement of Lakurawa elements into Nigeria while denying the group the opportunity to exploit border areas as corridors for movement, logistics and the establishment of enclaves.

The operation, he added, would also target terrorist activities around the River Niger axis and the Kainji Lake National Park to prevent the area from being used as a platform for projecting violence into neighbouring communities and other parts of the North-West.

Danja said the launch of Operation Clean Sweep IV demonstrated the proactive and sustained posture of Operation Fansan Yamma in responding to evolving terrorist threats across the region.

He assured that the Theatre Command remained committed to protecting civilian communities, securing Nigeria’s territorial integrity and denying terrorist groups the opportunity to regroup, reinforce or establish operational footholds.
