It’s a fresh chapter for the Nigerian duo of Osinachi Ohale and Gift Monday, who have transitioned into another phase in their careers by teaming up with new clubsides.
Ohale, who recently retired from international football with the Super Falcons after a trophy-laden stint, switched sides to Como 1907 in the Italian Women’s Serie A on a free transfer.
“Como 1907 is pleased to announce the signing of defender Osinachi Ohale, who joined the BiancoBlu during the summer transfer window,” the Italian club wrote about the Nigerian defender.
The 34-year-old five-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) winner last played for Pachuca of Mexico and now returns to Italy, having seen her career take her to Sweden, Spain, and Mexico. Ohale featured for Italian outfit AS Roma in 2020 and is expected to bring significant international experience to Como 1907.
“Osinachi is a very experienced and good defender. Representing Nigeria for more than 15 years, many as captain, her international experience is extremely valuable for us,” the Technical Director of Como 1907 Women’s, Nils Nielsen, said about the Nigerian.
“Her ability to place herself in the right spot defensively, and her 1-on-1 skills in marking as well as aerial strengths will help the team for sure.”
Responding to Nielsen’s praise, Ohale expressed delight about her new adventure in Italy.
“I’m happy to return to Italy and embark on this new experience here in Como; I have a very positive feeling about it,” she told the club’s website. “I’m ready to do whatever the coach asks of me to help the team.”
A Gift For Boston
Just as Ohale made her return to European football, her compatriot, Gift Monday, is moving across the Atlantic. Monday, who plays as an attacker, completed a switch to Boston Legacy after Washington Spirit traded the Nigerian forward in exchange for $500,000 in transfer threshold funds.
“Boston Legacy FC has agreed to a trade with the Washington Spirit for forward Gift Monday,” the club said in announcing her arrival. “The Legacy will receive Monday while the Spirit will receive $500,000 in transfer threshold funds.”
She joined the club from another National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team, Washington Spirit, where the Nigerian scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 48 regular season matches since teaming up with the club in 2025.
The 24-year-old brings a “unique set of qualities” to Boston Legacy and is expected to “add another dimension” to their attack.
“She will contribute to our high press, create opportunities, and be dangerous in the final third. She’s also a team player, and that matters to us as much as her quality on the pitch,” the General Manager of Boston Legacy FC, Domè Guasch, said.
For Monday, the transfer represents an honour.
“I’m very happy and honored to be here today as I officially join this wonderful club,” she said.
The forward is currently with the Nigerian squad for the Super Falcons’ Olympic qualifying matches against Comoros on October 9 and 13, 2026.
A native of Akwa Ibom, the forward made her senior debut for the 10-time WAFCON champions in 2019 and was part of Nigeria’s roster for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Her football career saw her don the colours of Nigerian clubs FC Robo and COD United Amazons. Monday also played two and a half seasons for Spanish side UD Tenerife. There, she featured in over 65 matches with 26 goal contributions in about 4,500 minutes.
At Spirit, she made history by netting the quickest hat-trick in the NWSL, scoring in 35 minutes and 52 seconds against the Houston Dash in September 2025.
