Osun APC raises alarm over extra-judicial killings

Daily Post about 1 hour 3 mins read

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has raised concerns over reported cases of extra-judicial killings in Osogbo, the state capital, and other parts of the state.

The party, in a statement issued on Saturday, by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said the reported incidents had become a source of concern to residents and other stakeholders in the state.

The statement called on the state government and security agencies to prioritise the protection of lives and property.

The party said its expectation that the conclusion of the August 15 governorship election would bring an end to reported killings in the state had not been fulfilled.

The APC said, “The conviction that the conclusion of the 15th August, 2026 governorship election of which the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Governor Ademola Adeleke its winner would bring an end to the killings has become a mirage.”

According to the opposition party, “the frequency of violent incidents had raised concerns about the safety of residents and visitors to Osun.

“The situation is capable of creating fear among people from other states who might consider visiting or doing business in Osun.”

The party described the reported security situation as a matter requiring the attention of stakeholders, saying repeated negative reports about the state should be addressed.

The APC also referred to a reported attack at the Owo-Eba area, near Ilesa Garage in Osogbo, where two people were reportedly killed on Friday.

According to the statement, “the victims were allegedly attacked by unidentified hoodlums using guns, machetes, knives and cudgels in front of Peka’s Bar.”

The party identified one of the deceased as Small Rugged, whom it described as being known within the state’s thuggery circle, while the second victim was identified as Seyi Osha.

It added that other people, including Mascot, said to be a personal assistant to Small Rugged, Spirit and Agba Kali, a passer-by, were seriously wounded during the incident.

The APC sympathised with residents of the state over the activities of people who had allegedly turned parts of Osun into a place where violence was used to settle disputes.

The party called on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to take measures to protect residents from reported killings, while urging the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property.

The APC said, “We shall not welcome any excuses for exposing the people of the state to extra-judicial killings. Killings should not occur without the accused persons being subjected to due judicial process.”
