The Osun State chapter of the Young Progressive Party, YPP, has distanced itself from a group identified as the YPP Decampees Group which pitched its tent with the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Osun YPP also rejected claims made during an APC campaign rally in Ede and insisted that the individuals involved do not represent the party ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
The party made its position known in a statement issued on Tuesday by its State Publicity Secretary, Animasahun Saheed and obtained by DAILY POST.
According to the statement, the position was reached after consultations with the State Working Committee, Local Government Executives and stakeholders across Osun State.
The YPP stated that it does not recognise, endorse or have any affiliation with the group that addressed the APC rally in Ede, maintaining that the party remains united and operational across all 30 local government areas of the state.
The party declared that members who voluntarily defect to another political party automatically cease to be members of the YPP and, therefore, cannot speak, negotiate or act on behalf of the party in any capacity.
“The Young Progressive Party in Osun State remains a united, active, and independent political platform with a functional State Executive and structures in all 30 Local Government Areas, including Ede Federal Constituency,” the statement said.
The party also maintained that the names and titles used by those who spoke at the APC rally were not recognised by the Osun YPP leadership as officials of the party.
Reaffirming its political direction, the YPP said it remained committed to its founding principles of transparency, accountability, youth inclusion and people-centred governance.
The statement added that the party was not engaged in merger discussions with any political organisation and remained fully mobilised for the forthcoming governorship election.
“We are not in merger talks with any party, and we are fully mobilized ahead of the August 15th, 2026 Governorship election to present credible candidates under the YPP platform and to advance our own PROSPERITY AGENDA for the people of Osun,” the statement added.
The party urged members of the public, the media and its supporters to disregard the claims made by the group, describing them as inconsistent with the official position of the Osun State chapter.
The statement alleged that the claims were the handiwork of Alexander-Roast Tadenikawo Adeleke and some disgruntled members of the Young Progressive Party and called on genuine members and supporters to remain calm, united and committed to the growth of the party.
