“Over 80,000 Volunteers Registered For Iru Ekun Security Network” – Sunday Igboho

Yoruba nation activist and founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, says more than 80,000 volunteers have registered to join the security outfit across the South-West.

Igboho said the figure reflects the commitment of people in the region to supporting community-based efforts to combat kidnapping, terrorism and other forms of criminality.

In a statement issued by his media office, he said the security network had recorded encouraging results since its launch, claiming that incidents of kidnapping had reduced in several South-West communities previously plagued by criminal activities.

He added that the organisation was conducting thorough background checks on all recruits to prevent criminals and other persons of questionable character from infiltrating its ranks.

“It is delightful to announce the impressive level of interest and enthusiasm demonstrated by our people in the Iru Ekun Security Network. We initially projected 50,000 personnel, but we have already registered over 80,000 volunteers across Yorubaland,” he said.

According to him, the security outfit has been officially launched in Oyo and Osun states, while plans have been concluded to inaugurate it in Kwara State.

Igboho said the initiative had attracted the support of key stakeholders in Kwara, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

He urged Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and local communities in tackling insecurity.

Igboho also claimed that the security network’s local intelligence operations, combined with support from security agencies, had contributed to a significant reduction in kidnapping cases in the South-West.

He acknowledged the support of the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Ministry of Defence.

He specifically appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Inspector-General of Police; the Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Commissioners of Police in the South-West, Kwara and Niger states for supporting the initiative.

Igboho also commended the South-West governors for backing the Iru Ekun Security Network and called on Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliation, to regard security as a collective responsibility.
