A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Rasaq Sijuola, has raised an alarm over the destruction of some billboards belonging to APC candidates in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sijuola, who is one of the aspirants in the recent primary election in Akinyele State Constituency 2 on the platform of APC, alleged that the billboards were destroyed by political miscreants in Ibadan and that the campaign materials were removed and replaced with those of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.
Sijuola made the allegations in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday.
Sijuola, who doubles as the Mogaji of Looyin compound in Ibadan, noted that the campaign materials erected along the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA road in Akinyele Local Government Area were destroyed and replaced with APM campaign materials.
The APC chieftain described the situation as unacceptable and stressed that political differences should never become a justification for destroying campaign materials or other people’s properties.
He called on security agencies to rise up and save the situation, saying he was consulting with his legal team to determine the appropriate legal steps to take regarding the alleged destruction and replacement of the materials.
He used the opportunity to call on party leaders, stakeholders, security agencies and relevant authorities to look into the matter and ensure that anyone found responsible is dealt with according to the law.
He also urged supporters of all political parties to embrace tolerance, restraint and issue-based politics as the 2027 elections approach.
He reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful democratic participation, stressing that politics should be about ideas, service and development, not the destruction of campaign materials or intimidation of political opponents.
