Oyo Govt demonishes three buildings linked to criminal activity, arms cache

Oyo State Government on Tuesday demolished three buildings linked to criminal activity and an arms cache.

The buildings, situated within a fenced compound on Arubiewe road, Gbendu community, off Olodo-Garage in Ibadan, were allegedly harbouring criminal elements and used for storing ammunition.

Speaking with newsmen at the scene, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Mr Mojeed Mogbonjubola, said the buildings were a “major hideout for arms and ammunition”.

According to Mogbonjubola, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Abimbola Olugbenga, had given a report on the whole process to Gov. Seyi Makinde.

“So instruction came that we should demolish the buildings, and that’s what we’re doing right now,” he said.

The commissioner added that the ministry followed due process before commencing the demolition exercise.

He declared that the state government would not treat security issues with levity, recalling that a similar demolition was carried out a week earlier on a building that had harboured the kidnappers of the sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Bayo Adelabu.

“As we have always maintained, what we are doing today serves as a strong deterrent to those engaged in criminal activities in the state.

“The governor won’t tolerate all the inadequacies of these bad eggs in the state,” he said.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and advised landlords and property agents to thoroughly screen prospective tenants before renting out their properties.
