Oyo Obidient leader Sunday Oni, supporters join APC ahead of 2027

The leader of the Obidient Movement in Oyo State, Mr Sunday Oni, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside his supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This was announced by the Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, in a post on X.

It reads: “In Ibadan, we welcomed Mr. Sunday Oni, a leader of the Obidient Movement in Oyo State, alongside thousands of his supporters, into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The occasion was attended by the Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, our Oyo South Senatorial candidate, and other leaders of the party.

“Mr. Oni spoke about his political journey, including his role in the political alliance around the 2023 elections, and his decision to align with the APC ahead of 2027. He also stated that the movement would engage across all 33 Local Government Areas.

“I appreciate Mr. Oni and every member of the movement who was part of this gathering. Their decision represents an important political development in Oyo State.

“In my address, I spoke about my longstanding connection to Ibadan and my experience following the affairs of Oyo State for close to 50 years of my adult life. I also spoke about my priorities for governance, including greater youth participation and attention to the wellbeing of workers and pensioners.

“My running mate, Hon. Adesoji Adedeji, was also acknowledged for his role in representing and engaging with the youth population.

“I also appreciate the party leaders who joined us, including Rt. Hon. Asimiyu Niran Alarape, Alhaji Taofeek Lamidi, Hon. Fatai Adesina, Dr. Adekemi Opatunde, Hon. Yemi Aderibigbe, Hon. Sola Ogunbode, Olawale Sadare, Hon. Tunde Oloyede, Alhaji Shina Alabi, Hon. Sunday Aborisade, Hon. Tunde Elegbede and Comrade Olalekan Oladejo.

“It was a significant gathering in Ibadan and an important moment of political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.”
