Oyo rescue rekindles hope for safer Nigeria — Oyintiloye

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Mr Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has said the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State has renewed public confidence in the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity and strengthened hope for national stability.

Oyintiloye, who spoke with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, said the operation had also frustrated attempts to politicise the abduction, describing the rescue as a demonstration of Nigeria’s capacity to overcome terrorism and other violent crimes.

He commended President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their roles in securing the release of the victims.

The former lawmaker praised the courage and resilience of the rescued pupils and teachers during their period in captivity, while urging authorities to provide them with necessary psychological support and rehabilitation.

He called on governments at all levels to strengthen the country’s security architecture through improved intelligence gathering, better inter-agency cooperation and proactive measures against emerging threats.

According to him, a strong security system remains essential for economic recovery and sustainable development.

“I congratulate the President, the Oyo State governor, the victims and the people of the state on this development.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with families of those who lost their loved ones. May their souls rest in peace,” he said.

Oyintiloye urged security agencies to build on the success of the operation by intensifying efforts to rescue other Nigerians still held captive, particularly in Borno and other affected areas.

He also commiserated with the military over casualties recorded during the rescue mission, noting that the sacrifices of security personnel in protecting the nation would continue to be remembered.

The APC chieftain further called for stronger action against individuals and networks supplying weapons, vehicles and illicit drugs to criminal groups, stressing the need for international collaboration to disrupt sources of funding for terrorism and banditry.

“Security is a collective responsibility. If you see something, say something. With this successful rescue, there is renewed hope for Nigeria in the fight against insecurity,” he added.
