Pandemonium in Rivers varsity as gunshots throw students into panic [VIDEO]

There was pandemonium at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rivers State, on Monday, following a sporadic shooting that left students in panic.

Reports alleged that the development was prompted by a violent clash between two rival cult groups, Vikings and Black Axe within the campus.

It was gathered that the shooting lasted for over 20 minutes without interruption, causing apprehension across the university community.

In a video clip sighted by DAILY POST, some group of persons believed to be students were seen fleeing the campus.

But the Students’ Union Government, SUG, president of the university, Comrade Alex Onu dismissed the report of suspected cultists engaging in a gun battle within the university premises.

The SUG president, however, confirmed that operatives of the Rivers State Police Command fired gunshots to disperse some unknown faces who had entered the institution during the ongoing SUG Week celebration.

He told journalists that the unknown persons, who were believed to have been attracted to the university by the SUG Week activities, did not engage the police in any confrontation, stating that they immediately left the premises after the police fired shots into the air.
