Passenger Dies After ‘Medical Emergency’ On Kenya Airways Flight To Lagos

Kenya Airways has announced the death of a passenger following a medical emergency on board a flight from Nairobi to Lagos.

The airline said the incident occurred at about 21:20 Nigerian time on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, approximately 20 minutes before the aircraft landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

In a statement shared on its X handle on Wednesday, Kenya Airways said its crew administered first aid to the passenger and followed emergency procedures.

“Kenya Airways PLC (“KQ”) confirms that on Tuesday, 06 October 2026, our flight from Nairobi to Lagos experienced a medical emergency on board at around 21:20 hrs local Nigerian time. One of our passengers was found to be unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before landing in Lagos,” it said.

“Our crew administered first aid as per their training and followed all emergency procedures.”

The airline said the aircraft landed at the Lagos airport at 21:41, where medical personnel subsequently confirmed that the passenger had died.

“Upon landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 21:41 hrs, the aircraft was met by medical personnel, and upon further examination, the medical personnel confirmed that the passenger had passed away,” it stated

The airline expressed condolences to the deceased passenger’s family and friends, while apologising for any inconvenience the incident may have caused.

“We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and apologise for any inconvenience this incident may have caused,” Kenya Airways said. “We uphold and respect the privacy and dignity for all involved.”

The airline added that it was providing support to the deceased’s family and coordinating with local authorities and aviation regulators.

“Kenya Airways is providing the necessary support in close coordination with the deceased’s family, local authorities, and aviation regulators,” it added.

The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
