Onuminya Innocent in Sokoto
In a development that has sent shockwaves through Sokoto’s political landscape, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, and Chieftain of Action Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Sa’idu Umar Ubandoma, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was contained in a statement yesterday in Sokoto by the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Bashar Abubakar.
According to the statement, Ubandoma was formally received into the APC by Senator Wamakko, the leader of the party in Sokoto State, at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.
Ubandoma, a public servant and key stakeholder in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), served as Commissioner for Finance and later Secretary to the Sokoto State Government under the administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
He emerged as the PDP flagbearer for the 2023 governorship election in Sokoto and was widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the Tambuwal political structure in the state.
Explaining his decision to leave the ADC, Ubandoma said he was inspired by what he described as the quality of leadership and political maturity demonstrated by Senator Wamakko over the years.
He also cited the performance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, noting that the administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development convinced him that APC remains the most credible platform for Sokoto’s continued growth.
“The remarkable strides of the current administration across critical sectors of the state’s economy left me with no doubt that the APC is the party to deliver on the aspirations of the people of Sokoto State,” Ubandoma stated.
