Peter Obi Urges Nigerians To Protect Votes, Reject Fear Ahead Of 2027

Channels TV about 3 hours 2 mins read

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to actively protect their votes and remain at polling units until ballots are counted in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during a Global Digital Townhall streamed via Zoom, YouTube and other social media platforms, he engaged Nigerians at home and abroad on voter mobilisation, election security and strategies for protecting the electoral process.

Obi urged supporters to mobilise voters and ensure that polling agents are present across the country.

“We must stay and insist that votes must count,” he said.

According to the governor, his campaign was working on strengthening its network of polling agents and collaborating with other political parties to promote free, fair and credible elections.

Obi also cautioned Nigerians against accepting money or allowing intimidation to influence their electoral choices, arguing that both could undermine their future.

“If you collect money from them, that is the money they would have used in security… hospitals… education,” he said.

He also called for stronger action against insecurity, urging security agencies to receive the necessary logistics and support to protect Nigerians.

“We have security agencies. They must work. We must make sure we provide them with the logistics needed to work. We must make sure we are with them. We must make sure they are properly taken off, and their families are taken care of if anything happens to them if they are not available. We want a president who will lead from the front,” he said.

On election day, Obi urged voters to remain at their polling units after casting their ballots until the votes are counted, saying the process requires active participation from citizens.

The town hall forms part of Obi’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 election, with vote protection and grassroots participation emerging as central themes of the engagement.
