PFIPC: Daddy Freeze, journalist urge evidence-based scrutiny

Media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, and journalist Fegiro Johnson have called for evidence-based public discourse regarding allegations involving the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, urging Nigerians to allow due process and avoid drawing premature conclusions.

Their comments come amid an ongoing investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) into allegations made by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi concerning the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The Presidency has maintained that the PFIPC is not a recognised government agency and has no legal backing.

In a video shared on social media, Daddy Freeze questioned the basis of the allegations, citing reports that Adeyemi said he never met Gbajabiamila in person and dealt only through an alleged intermediary.

According to him, allegations of financial misconduct should ordinarily be supported by verifiable evidence, such as communication records, bank transaction details or other documentary proof.

He said public opinion should be guided by facts established through investigation rather than speculation, adding that photographs with public officials do not, on their own, constitute evidence of wrongdoing.

Daddy Freeze stressed that his comments should not be interpreted as a defence of any individual but as a call for adherence to due process and evidence-based discussions.

Similarly, journalist Fegiro Johnson urged Nigerians to distinguish between allegations and proven facts, warning against allowing political sentiments to influence public judgment before investigations are concluded.

In a post on X, Johnson argued that claims of financial transactions should be supported by credible documentary evidence and maintained that the matter should be assessed on the basis of verifiable facts.

The comments have generated debate on social media, with differing opinions expressed over the allegations and the ongoing investigation.

Gbajabiamila has denied any wrongdoing, stating that he has no involvement in the allegations. The ICPC has not concluded its investigation, and no findings have been announced.

The controversy arose following allegations made by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi relating to the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The Presidency has stated that the PFIPC is not a government agency established under Nigerian law. The ICPC subsequently commenced an investigation into the allegations.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no court or law enforcement agency has found Gbajabiamila or any other person liable for any offence in connection with the matter.
