Planned US, Israeli strike on Iran suspended amid hopes of diplomatic breakthrough – Trump

Daily Post about 3 hours 2 mins read

President Donald Trump says the United States has suspended plans for a major military strike against Iran after receiving assurances that negotiations toward a broader agreement are close to completion.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the US military was fully prepared to launch an attack against the Islamic Republic but decided to hold off following requests from Iran and several Middle Eastern countries seeking more time for diplomacy.

According to Trump, the proposed agreement would include the immediate and complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and measures aimed at eliminating what he described as Iran’s nuclear threat.

He said the decision to suspend military action was made in the interest of global stability and to allow negotiators an opportunity to finalise the deal.

Trump also stated that Israel had agreed to support the decision to delay any large-scale military action while diplomatic efforts continue.

“The United States is ready if necessary, but we are giving peace a chance,” Trump said, expressing hope that negotiators would swiftly conclude an agreement.

Since tensions with Iran escalated, Trump has repeatedly warned of possible military action against Iranian targets, while also pausing such plans on several occasions after indicating that mediators had reported progress toward a negotiated settlement.
