Three people have been killed following a clash between suspected Fulani and Mwaghavul youths in the Jwak Maitumbi community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident was reported by security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who cited a military source as saying the clash occurred at about 7:35 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
According to Makama, the confrontation followed an earlier dispute between youths from the two communities, with sustained gunfire reported at the location.
Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), were deployed to the area after receiving reports of the violence and moved in to contain the situation.
“The troops responded to reports of sustained gunfire at the location and swiftly moved in to contain the situation,” the report stated.
The troops, he said, reportedly deployed firepower, forcing both sides to withdraw from the area.
Makama further stated that they subsequently conducted clearance operations around the community, with drone surveillance used to monitor the area and confirm that the combatants had left.
The victims comprised one member of the local community and two Fulani herders.
Another member of the local community was also injured in the incident.
He said security forces have continued operations in the area to maintain calm.
