The Plateau State Government has strengthened healthcare delivery across the state with the provision of medical equipment, hospital beds and other essential materials to 19 functional secondary healthcare facilities.
The items, procured by the state government, were formally presented to the Plateau State Hospitals Management Board for onward distribution to the beneficiary hospitals across the state.
The intervention includes 700 mattresses, 700 pillows, 2,000 bedsheets and more than 1,000 Mackintosh bed protectors, as well as 10 computers, 10 UPS units, 10 printers and seven digital X-ray machines.
Presenting the items, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, said the intervention was part of the government’s efforts to address critical gaps in secondary healthcare facilities and improve the quality of services available to residents.
Baamlong said the provision of the digital X-ray machines would particularly strengthen diagnostic services and reduce the challenges faced by patients who often have to travel long distances in search of specialised investigations.
He said the government remained committed to creating an enabling environment for healthcare workers while ensuring that patients receive quality and dignified care in public hospitals.
According to him, the items were procured based on identified needs across the state’s secondary health facilities, stressing that the government would continue to invest in equipment, infrastructure and human resources to improve healthcare delivery.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Hospitals Management Board, its Executive Secretary, Dr. Raymond Jurit, commended the state government for the intervention, describing it as a major boost to secondary healthcare delivery in Plateau.
Jurit said the board would ensure that the equipment and materials were distributed equitably to the 19 functional secondary health facilities according to their identified needs.
He said the digital X-ray machines would significantly improve diagnostic capacity, while the mattresses, bedsheets, pillows and Mackintosh materials would help improve patient comfort and infection prevention in the hospitals.
The executive secretary assured that the board would put the items to effective use and strengthen monitoring to ensure that the equipment was properly maintained and deployed for the benefit of patients.
The intervention is expected to improve the quality of patient care, strengthen diagnostic services and enhance the overall capacity of secondary healthcare facilities to respond to the health needs of residents across Plateau State.
