PM Lo says Senegal will clear its 1,956 trillion CFA francs debt arrears

The Standard Gambia about 3 hours 1 mins read

According to Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Lô, Senegal has accumulated 1.956 trillion CFA francs in payment arrears, a situation which, according to him, constitutes a serious obstacle to the national economy and weighs heavily on business activity.

Faced with this constraint, the head of government intends to make the settlement of the state’s arrears one of the priorities of his government action. He emphasised the need for the public authorities to fulfil their financial commitments, believing that the state’s credibility is also measured by its ability to honour its debts.

The prime minister said the payment of these arrears is therefore not merely an accounting or budgetary requirement; it constitutes an economic and institutional imperative. By gradually clearing its debts, he reasoned, Senegal intends to restore the confidence of economic operators and streamline the financing mechanisms of the economy.
