Police arrest 28yr old suspected armed robber in Delta, recover guns, ammunition

Operatives of the Ebrumede Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State in a stop-and-search duty have arrested a 28-year-old suspected armed robber, Benjamin Haruna, while two of his accomplices, identified as Omelo and Alabanco escaped from the crime scene along Garki,Uti road in Effurun.

The Police also recovered from the suspect, who was arrested on August 4th, two locally made double-barrel guns, eleven live cartridges, one expended cartridge, one axe, two Android phones, two power banks, two wristwatches, one lighter, and one camouflage military polo.

the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe confirmed the report in a statement in Warri. 

He said, “On 4 August 2026, operatives of the Ebrumede Division, while on intensive stop-and-search duty along Garki-Uti Road, Effurun, intercepted three suspected armed robbers.”

Edafe explained that,”During the operation, Benjamin Haruna (28) was arrested, while two other suspects identified as Omelo and Alabanco escaped on a motorcycle.”

According to the Police Image maker, “A search of a bag in the possession of the suspects led to the recovery of two locally made double-barrel guns, eleven live cartridges, one expended cartridge, one axe, two Android phones, two power banks, two wristwatches, one lighter, and one camouflage military polo.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects were transporting the exhibits to their hideout along Sapele Road.”

SP Edafe noted that, “The arrested suspect remains in custody, while a coordinated manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.”
