Police operatives have arrested a suspected cult member after he allegedly brandished a firearm and threatened people at a market square in Aliade, Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.

The suspect was said to have caused panic at the market after allegedly displaying the firearm and issuing threats to people in the area.

Following the incident, police operatives moved in and successfully apprehended the suspect.

A search conducted during the arrest led to the recovery of one English pistol containing five rounds of live ammunition.

The operatives also recovered a locally fabricated pistol loaded with four cartridges from the suspect.

In addition to the firearms and ammunition, charms were reportedly found in the suspect’s possession.

The arrest is expected to assist the police in their ongoing efforts to tackle cult-related activities and other forms of criminality in Aliade and surrounding communities.
