The Plateau State Police Command has arrested three suspects and recovered a locally made pistol during a security operation in Jos North Local Government Area.
The development was contained in a post shared on X on Tuesday by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who regularly reports on security-related incidents across the country.
According to the post, the incident was said to have occurred around 4:45 pm on Monday, when police personnel attached to the Gada-Biu Outstation intercepted the suspects.
“The three suspects were identified as Ibrahim Alhassan, 27, Kingsley Kadinan Deban, and one Johnson, whose surname is yet to be confirmed,” Makama wrote.
According to police sources, the suspects were riding on a Bajaj motorcycle from Rukuba Road towards Gada-Biu when the incident occurred.
The sources said the suspects allegedly fired a shot into the air near the Gada-Biu Catholic Church, which quickly drew the attention of security operatives in the area.
“The sound of the gunshot alerted our personnel, who immediately went after them and arrested the three suspects,” a source said.
After their arrest, a search was carried out, leading to the recovery of a locally made pistol as well as the motorcycle they were using.
The suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations have begun to determine the motive behind their actions.
Police authorities also said efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other possible members of the group and recover additional weapons.
