Police begin traffic enforcement exercise in Akwa Ibom

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has begun traffic enforcement exercise across the state to address issues of rising car crashes.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, who disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Wednesday, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, would personally supervise the operation across the state.

John said the enforcement exercise targets major traffic offences, including one-way driving, excessive speeding, use of covered or concealed vehicle registration number plates, unlawful operation of motorcycles on restricted routes, as well as other traffic-related violations that endanger public safety.

“The Command wishes to emphasize that this operation is a proactive public safety initiative aimed at restoring order on the roads, preventing avoidable accidents, and safeguarding all road users,” the police spokesperson said.

The PPRO said anyone found violating any of the identified traffic laws and regulations will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law, addling that law-abiding residents have nothing to fear, as the exercise is designed solely to ensure public safety and promote responsible road use.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command therefore calls on motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle and motorcycle operators, and all road users to comply strictly with traffic regulations and cooperate with officers deployed for the exercise,” the statement added.
