The Uganda Police Force has foiled an attempted armed robbery at Gaz Petro Station in Central Division, Masindi Municipality, Masindi District, and arrested one suspect in connection with the incident.
According to a statement issued by police on Monday, the incident occurred at around midnight when two armed suspects, travelling on a motorcycle registration number UGG 529P, allegedly attacked a security guard deployed at the fuel station.
The suspects were reportedly armed with a pump-action shotgun and a knife and attempted to overpower the guard, disarm him and rob the station.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects first tried to lure the guard into repositioning their motorcycle, allegedly as part of a plan to attack him. They later held him at gunpoint, leading to a struggle in which the guard sustained injuries while resisting the attackers.
Police said a patrol team responded swiftly after receiving information about the incident and intervened, successfully stopping the robbery attempt.
The injured security guard was rescued, while one of the suspects, identified as Odoma Ronald, 43, was arrested at the scene.
Police recovered a pump-action firearm, a knife and the motorcycle registration number UGG 529P, which is believed to have been used during the attempted robbery.
The force said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the second suspect, who escaped and remains at large.
“Investigations into the incident are ongoing,” police said.
The Uganda Police Force commended the security guard for his vigilance and bravery in resisting the attackers, as well as the police officers who responded promptly and prevented the crime.
Police have also urged members of the public, security personnel and business operators to remain alert and report any suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station.
The incident comes amid continued police efforts to combat violent crime and strengthen security across the country through rapid response and community cooperation.
