The Rivers State Police Command has rescued a woman identified as Loveth from her kidnappers and arrested a suspected member of the gang during an operation in the state.
Loveth was kidnapped on September 2, 2026, while sitting in front of her shop.
The police said the armed kidnappers fired shots into the air before forcing her into a vehicle and driving away.
In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said operatives of the Eleme Police Division began an intelligence-led operation to find the victim and her abductors on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju.
ASP Kaborlo said the operation later led to a gun battle between the police and the suspected kidnappers.
The police rescued Loveth and arrested 35-year-old Victor Ini, who is allegedly a member of the gang.
Items recovered from the suspect include a silver-coloured mini Keke bus with registration number RBC 992 XE, Abuja; two locally made pistols; one live round of ammunition; a mobile phone; two identity cards; two black gowns; and a vehicle number plate bearing registration number KRK 528 HG.
The Command’s spokesperson said the police had intensified efforts to identify and arrest other members of the suspected gang.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police assured residents that the Command would continue to use all lawful means to protect lives and property and bring criminals to justice.
Adepoju warned criminals operating in the state that “there is no safe haven for criminals in Rivers State,” as the police would continue to pursue those involved in kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The Command also urged residents to be more security-conscious during the ember months, saying criminal activities could increase.
It appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible and timely information that could help prevent crime and track down criminals.
