Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command have rescued one Bashir Usman from being lynched by an irate mob for allegedly attempting to abduct a five-year-old child.

SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command said in a statement she issued on Tuesday that the incident occurred on Saturday, October 4th.

She explained that the command had received a distress call reporting that an unidentified adult male was being assaulted by an angry mob over an alleged attempt to abduct a child.

“Following receipt of the report, police operatives from Kuje Division were immediately dispatched to the scene, where one Bashir Usman was rescued from an irate mob that was about to lynch him.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was being assaulted by the mob over allegations that he attempted to abduct a five-year-old child in front of her residence in Angwan Lado, Kuje Area Council of the FCT,” she said.

According to the PPRO, the suspect is currently in protective custody, “while investigations into the alleged crime is being expanded to unravel the extent of his activities and apprehend any accomplices who may be involved”.

She noted that the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi “strongly discourages members of the public from taking the law into their own hands or engaging in jungle justice, as such acts are criminal and tantamount to murder, under the law.”
