The Jigawa State Police Command has rescued a 26-year-old suspected transformer vandal from a mob attack in Auyo Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists.

He said the suspect, identified as Laminu Sha’aibu of Gumusuwa Village in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area, was arrested at Maskangayu Village in Auyo LGA on September 29, 2026.

According to him, the police received information from Ayan Village at about 3:30 p.m. that the suspect had been apprehended with vandalised transformer coils and was at risk of being attacked by a mob.

He said police operatives immediately rushed to the scene, rescued the suspect and took him to the nearest primary health centre for medical attention.

The suspect was treated and subsequently discharged, while the vandalised transformer coils were recovered.

Shiisu said the suspect admitted during interrogation to spending three nights dismantling the transformer without being detected.

He added that the police conducted further investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether other persons were involved.

According to him, the suspect has been charged before a competent court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, commended members of the public for providing timely information that assisted the police in apprehending the suspect.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, particularly those involving electricity installations and other public infrastructure.

The commissioner also assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and bringing offenders to justice.
