Watchdog Uganda about 2 hours 2 mins read

KASESE — Police in Kasese District are investigating an overnight attack on Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in which an armed suspect was shot and later found dead.

The incident occurred at about 2:00am on Thursday, October 1, 2026, when a group of about six people, armed with pangas, allegedly attacked the police station in Bugoye Sub-County.

According to police, the attackers targeted the officer on duty and attempted to seize his firearm.

The officer resisted the attempt and fired at the assailants, shooting one of them in the leg.

The injured suspect fled from the scene but was later found dead a short distance from the police station.

Police said the identity of the deceased had not yet been established.

Four suspects have, however, been arrested in connection with the attack. They are Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.

Police also recovered a panga at the scene, while the deceased’s body was conveyed to the mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify and apprehend the suspects who escaped.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify or locate the suspects still at large to report to the nearest police station.

The public has also been urged to report any suspicious activity that could be connected to the incident.

Police said they remain alert and prepared to respond to attacks targeting police facilities.
