Portugal: What I told Cristiano Ronaldo after he left camp – Bruno Fernandes

Daily Post about 2 hours 2 mins read

Portugal’s midfielder, Bruno Fernandes has disclosed what he told his captain and international teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, following the superstar’s decision to withdraw from the national team.

The Al-Nassr forward made the controversial decision after Portugal’s UEFA Nations League match against Denmark, reportedly following a disagreement with manager Jorge Jesus.

Spanish journalist, Edu Aguirre asserted that Jesus compromised Cristiano Ronaldo’s confidence subsequent to the encounter with Norway, during which the striker remained unused on the bench.

Jesus and Portuguese Football Federation chief, Pedro Proenca engaged in discussions with the athlete, and the manager consented to publicly acknowledge his error before reversing his position during the subsequent press conference.

This action provoked the Portugal captain, prompting him to depart from the national team’s training facility, according to reports.

The 41-year-old has indicated that the public will eventually learn the circumstances surrounding his departure.

During Cristiano Ronaldo’s absence, Portugal achieved an impressive 4-2 victory against Denmark, with Fernandes serving as team captain.

The Manchester United midfielder has now commented on his conversation with Cristiano Ronaldo regarding the disputed departure.

Fernandes communicated to Cristiano Ronaldo that he shall forever be regarded as their nation’s preeminent figure.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fernandes said, “I spoke with Cristiano Ronaldo and told him that he is and will always remain the GREATEST icon of our national team and our country.

“Our national team is united, not divided. Matters must be resolved internally and conclude well for both parties.”

Portugal will play against Norway in Porto in their next UEFA Nations League on Sunday, having secured victory in all three matches in the current international period.
