Prophet’s son arrested for impersonating fellow prophet, duping victims of N18m in Ogun

Operatives of the Ilaro Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested the son of a prophet for allegedly impersonating a fellow prophet on Facebook and defrauding victims of over N18 million.

The suspect, Adewale Arojah, was arrested for allegedly cloning the Facebook profile of Prophet Dr Muyiwa Akogun and using it to swindle unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of offering prayers and spiritual assistance.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Babaseyi said the arrest followed a complaint lodged on October 3, 2026, by the real Prophet Akogun, who reported that members of the public had been complaining about fraudulent activities being perpetrated in his name.

According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer of the Ilaro Division immediately deployed intelligence and detective operatives to track the perpetrator.

Through technological monitoring and intelligence-led analysis, the suspect was tracked to a village in Ajegunle, via the Ilaro-Ibogun axis, where he was apprehended.

The command said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to impersonating Prophet Akogun, delivering fake prophecies and offering prayer services to vulnerable individuals both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect systematically targeted victims seeking spiritual assistance on the prophet’s Facebook page, gained their trust and defrauded them of over N18 million.

“The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Ilaro operatives for their swift response, reiterating the command’s resolve to dismantle online fraud networks and curb identity theft.

He advised members of the public to verify the authenticity of accounts before engaging religious leaders or public figures on social media and to refrain from transferring money for spiritual remedies.
