Provide evidence you won 2023 poll, Tinubu challenges Obi

By Omeiza Ajayi, Abuja

President Bola Tinubu on Friday night threw down the gauntlet to the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, challenging him to present concrete proof to substantiate his persistent claims of winning that year’s presidential election.

The president spoke through his All Progressives Congress APC Presidential Campaign Council.

Council spokesman, Dele Alake, said he was reacting following a recent BBC interview where Obi claimed victory in the 2023 poll while simultaneously admitting he possessed no evidence to back up the assertion.

‘Show Us the Proof’

Reacting to Obi’s admission on the BBC—where he remarked, “I won the last election. There’s no evidence, but I won the election. Everything is not based on evidence”—the APC campaign council lambasted the statement as a “troubling display of delusion” and a brazen disregard for facts and the democratic process.

Alake questioned the rationale behind insisting on a political victory without backing it up with verifiable records or data, challenging Obi to produce actual proof rather than relying on unsubstantiated conjectures.

“For a candidate who placed a distant third in the presidential poll to persistently insist he won — without evidence and contrary to all official records — reflects a deep and troubling disconnection from reality and absolute disregard for facts and truth,” Alake asserted.

He mocked the source of Obi’s electoral claims, asking, “Where is Obi sourcing his facts? Could it be from his infamous adviser at Upper Iweka Junction or from one Obedient punching the laptop for the next post from California or Dallas?”

Reaffirming the legitimacy of Tinubu’s presidency, the APC campaign council maintained that the outcome of the 2023 election is a settled matter legally and constitutionally.

The council pointed out that President Tinubu’s victory was certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and subsequently upheld by both the Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court.

Alake noted that while Obi continues to engage in “posturing and shenanigans”, President Tinubu remains focused on discharging his executive mandate through economic, educational, and infrastructural reforms across the country.

The campaign council further called on Obi to honour a prior pledge to step aside from the 2027 presidential race if liabilities were proven against his administration in Anambra State.

The council asserted that official financial records from the state have already established those liabilities, urging Obi to respect his own word and exit the race.
