Remanded Nasarawa activist, Oscar Keana transferred to Nasarawa Prison

Daily Post about 2 hours 1 mins read

Detained Nasarawa-based media activist, Abdulkarim Allanana, popularly known as Oscar Keana, has been transferred from the Lafia Custodial Centre to the Medium Security Custodial Centre.

Allanana, who is the leader of the Indigenous People of Nasarawa State, was reportedly moved on Tuesday morning following a directive from the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The activist was remanded in custody by a Federal High Court sitting in Lafia after he was arraigned by the Department of State Services, DSS, over allegations of false publication concerning Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule.

He is facing a two-count charge bordering on alleged false information. The court subsequently adjourned proceedings to November 26 to hear his bail application.

Meanwhile, a source familiar with the matter alleged that additional charges could be filed against the activist, potentially prolonging his detention ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The allegation has not been independently verified, and authorities have not publicly confirmed any plans to file fresh charges against Allanana.

Efforts by our correspondent to obtain comments from the DSS and the Nigerian Correctional Service regarding the transfer and the reported possibility of additional charges were unsuccessful as of press time.
