A three-storey building in Aba collapsed on Wednesday, creating panic around the vicinity.
The house, which was still under construction, crashed in the morning hours before the arrival of site workers for the day’s work.
The house which was being constructed for commercial purposes, caved in, on approaching the roofing stage.
Although concerned residents blamed substandard materials and poor project execution for the incident, relevant agencies in Abia State are yet to issue an official statement validating the claims.
Some of the residents who thronged the site of the fallen building urged the Abia State government to arrest the rising incidents of collapsed buildings.
Meanwhile, officials of Greater Aba Development Authority, GADA, have sealed the collapsed house to allow investigation.
DAILY POST recalls that about ten incidents of building collapse have been recorded in Aba, Umuahia, Osisioma and Ikwuano areas of the state between June and August 2026.
Some of the incidents happened on July 17, 2026 at Finbars Road, Umuahia and Low Cost Housing Estate in Umuahia when two-storey and three-storey buildings collapsed respectively.
At Umugbalu, Ikwuano LGA, a two-storey building under construction collapsed in the first week of July, 2026.
On July 13, 2026, a three-storey building collapsed at Umuozue, Osisioma Ngwa LGA and was consequently sealed by officials of Greater Aba Development Authority attached to Osisioma Ngwa LGA.
On July 9, 2026, the Greater Aba Development Authority, GADA, evacuated residents of No.71 Clifford Road, Aba, after the four-storey house they were living in developed a serious structural crack.
Miraculously, no resident or site worker died in the collapsed and distressed houses.
