Abuja came alive on Tuesday as thousands of Nigerians from different walks of life converged on the Transcorp Event Centre to celebrate popular aviator, entrepreneur and politician, Comrade Isaac Balami, on his 43rd birthday.
The grand celebration attracted more than 4,000 guests, turning the event into a gathering of politicians, business leaders, aviation professionals, government officials, family members, friends, mentees and ordinary Nigerians.
The massive turnout was a reflection of Balami’s wide network and his relationships across social, political and business circles, with guests travelling from different parts of the country to identify with the celebrant.
Among the dignitaries at the event were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association and governorship candidate, Olumide Akpata;, former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, representatives of Seyi Tinubu and other prominent Nigerians.
The crowd was so large that traffic around the Transcorp area was significantly affected, with the Minister of Women Affairs attributing the development to Balami’s popularity and strong connection with the people.
Describing him as “a man of the people, for the people and by the people,” Sulaiman-Ibrahim said Balami’s ability to attract people from different backgrounds at his age was remarkable.
The celebration was not limited to political and business elites, as people from different social and economic backgrounds joined in the festivities, creating an atmosphere of unity and celebration.
Guests were treated to music, comedy and other entertainment, while tributes poured in for Balami, with speakers highlighting his journey from humble beginnings to becoming an aviator, entrepreneur, politician and mentor.
Akpata, who chaired the occasion, said Balami’s story was particularly inspiring because of the challenges he overcame before establishing himself in the aviation industry.
He also noted that Balami had gone beyond aviation to establish a university, describing his accomplishments as evidence of his determination and capacity to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
The birthday celebration also featured a panel discussion on mentorship, where speakers examined the difference between genuine mentorship and political godfatherism.
Balami, while speaking during the session, recounted his journey from working as a soakaway evacuator to becoming an aviator and entrepreneur, stressing the importance of creating opportunities for others to succeed.
The event ended on a high note, with guests celebrating Balami’s achievements and wishing him greater success in the years ahead.
