Rivers police bust six-man kidnap syndicate, arrest two suspects

Daily Post about 1 hour 2 mins read

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate linked to the abduction of a man in Port Harcourt.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.

The command also rescued the victim, identified as Hassan, after he was held captive for three days before his relatives paid N10.3 million ransom for his release.

“The victim was abducted on September 6, 2026, around Fidelity Bank in the Garrison area of Port Harcourt,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the kidnappers took Hassan to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri, where he was held for three days.

The PPRO said the victim was released after his relatives paid N10.3 million to the kidnappers.

“The command received information about the incident on September 7 and immediately deployed operatives of its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) to investigate the case.

“The operatives launched an intelligence-led operation which led to the arrest of two suspected members of the gang.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in the operation and disclosed that the gang comprises six members who used a white mini-bus during the operation,” the statement added.

The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate, who are still at large.

The spokesperson assured that the command would continue to intensify its operations to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
