Troops rescue abducted victims in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, deployed in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, have rescued persons abducted by armed terrorists along the Anka–Gadan Manya Road.

The rescue followed a swift response by the troops to an attack on travellers along the route, according to the Nigerian Army.

The Army said the troops, while conducting a routine patrol on September 4, 2026, observed armed bandits attacking two persons travelling on a motorcycle.

It said the troops immediately mobilised to the location, forcing the attackers to flee into the surrounding terrain and abandon their captives.

“Troops immediately mobilised and rushed to the location. On arrival at the scene, the attackers fled into the surrounding terrain and abandoned their captives,” the Army said.

Following the incident, the Army said security forces had intensified operations in the area through aggressive patrols aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement and safeguarding residents.

The development comes amid sustained security operations in parts of Zamfara State to curb attacks, abductions and other criminal activities.
