The management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year student of the Department of English Language and Literary Studies, Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora.

This was as the Senate of IAUE announced that the institution has been ranked seventh in staff Google Scholar Profile Submission (by institutions) in the 2026 Ranking of Universities.

The Vice-Chancellor of IAUE, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, made the announcement during the Senate meeting held Wednesday at the Postgraduate Hall, according to an electronic statement by Dr. Ngozi Okiridu, Public Relations Officer of the school.

The statement noted that Nora was expelled after her final examination following a disturbing video of her interview with a content creator going viral on social media platforms.

In the video, Nora claimed that a lecturer in her department was taking care of her final-year research work and had charged her N150,000 for the job.

However, Okiridu, in the statement, said the university deemed the content damaging, adding that the action was to serve as a warning to others.

It read: “Senate has expelled Miss Onyewuenyi Chiamaka Nora with Matriculation Number U/2022/19900, a final-year student of the Department of English and Literary Studies, over damaging content creation. The expulsion is to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to do the same.

“Recall that the said student had, in an interview that went viral, claimed that her project topic was ‘Citizenship’ when there is no such topic as Citizenship in the Department. She also claimed that her supervisor was the one who wrote the project for her.”

On the Google ranking, the statement lauded all academic staff whose articles and publications were cited on Google Scholar, leading to the progress report on Google Scholar Profiles.

It thanked staff for giving the university the needed visibility and urged them to sustain the tempo.
